Ever Wonder How Diseases Spread? Let's Explore!

Have you ever wondered how scientists predict how many people might get sick during an outbreak, like the flu? One way they do this is by using something called an SEIR model.

It might sound complicated, but the basic idea is pretty simple. Imagine a population of people. The SEIR model helps us understand how people move through different stages of a disease:

Susceptible: These are people who are not yet sick but could become infected.
Exposed: These folks have been infected with the germ, but they aren't showing symptoms yet and might not be contagious.
Infectious: These are people who are sick and can spread the disease to others.
Recovered (or Removed): These individuals have either recovered from the illness and (hopefully!) have immunity, or in some models, this can include those who have unfortunately passed away.

Our simulator lets you play with these ideas! You can change things like how contagious a disease is or how quickly people recover, and then see how these changes affect the spread of the disease over time.
